MY STORY

Priya Lad, RPN, CD(DONA), CHBE

Welcome to Brave Journey Doula Services. My name is Priya Lad; a Mother, Nurse, Birth Doula and a Childbirth Educator. I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada now my family and I reside in Prosper, Texas. As a licensed nurse that has practiced in pediatrics and now in OB/GYN as a Triage Nurse and I have learned a lot about the birthing world. I am a certified DONA International Birth Doula. I am also a BEST certified Childbirth Educator that has been trained in birth education, postpartum care and breastfeeding support. Through my experiences of becoming a mother, I was inspired to help families through their journey by embracing and understanding how rewarding labor can be. Working as a nurse for many years has taught me many skills to support and help others while providing care. With Brave Journey Doula Services my goal is to help mothers accomplish their goals throughout labor, discover and overcome their fears, and educate them with both a natural and medical approach to labor. As a daughter, wife, and mother my goal is to create your journey, your way!

WHY BRAVE JOURNEY DOULA SERVICES

Brave Journey Doula Services comes from the meaning of my elder son's name "Ari'; which in Hindi means brave, lion, and Lord Vishnu. All of my pregnancies were my motivation to begin this journey as a Birth Doula and a Childbirth Educator. From my own labor and birth experiences I learned that labor is a brave journey with a rewarding ending. Everyday Ari, Nyles and Miren remind me of the journey I took to meet them which is why Brave Journey Doula Services is only fitting.

WHAT IS A DOULA

Many ask, "what is a doula, and what can they do for me". Doulas are trained professionals that assist woman during and after childbirth to provide support for the family and parents. As a Birth Doula we help guide mothers to create a plan for labor so that it is a memorable journey by focusing on the emotional and physical support needed. Studies have shown that having a Birth Doula that fits a mothers needs will increase the chances of a positive birth experience. Woman that use a Birth Doula are less likely to utilize medical interventions, however, if needed at birth it is fully supported. As a Birth Doula my role is to neither replace the partner, or medical support in place, but rather to help enhance the experience for the mother and family to create a blissful journey. Finding the right Birth Doula for you is like finding the right pair of shoes. When you find that right pair it just makes your journey that much better.
